Here at Coco Calla we love all things coconut oil, especially when it comes to making our own clean beauty and skin care recipes. Not only is it more cost effective but have you seen the ingredient list lately for the skin care products you are currently using?! I don't know about you but if I can't pronounce the stuff going in and on my body, its put on the no-way-I-am-using-that-product boycott list.
Recently during one of our many daily conversations as friends and business partners, Janna mentioned that she was using frankincense essential oil with our Coco Calla organic coconut oil on her face and was seeing an improvement in her skin. We both use coconut oil daily for its nourishing skin care properties and as an avid essential oil user I was intrigued by her use of this ancient oil as part of an anti-aging routine and couldn't wait to dive deeper to learn more.
Frankincense is a versatile oil and has been used for centuries for its many healing properties. As it turns out frankincense essential oil is also a powerful astringent, meaning it helps protect skin cells and can be used to help reduce acne blemishes, the appearance of large pores, prevent wrinkles and it can even help to lift, tone and tighten skin to naturally slow the signs of aging.
After reading more about its benefits for the skin, I couldn't wait to try it for myself. From my first time using it I was hooked. I am now using this regimine as part of my nightly skin care routine and love how softer the skin on my face and neck feel and look at night and when I wake up in the morning my skin feels tighter and more toned.
I couldn't wait to write a blog post to share our tips for using coconut oil and frankincense as an anti-aging skin moisturizer:
Step #1 - Wash face with a soap or cleanser that is as natural as possible like oatmeal or goat's milk. Try to stay away from harsh facial washes that dry out the skin. (Hint: if you can't pronounce most of the ingredients, its probably safe to say it contains harmful chemicals).
Step #2 - Mix a quarter size amount of Coco Calla organic Thai coconut oil with a 1-2 drops of frankincense essential oil in the palm of your hand. Note that good quality essential oils are very concentrated and potent so its extremely important that you dilute properly with a carrier oil like coconut oil. 1-2 drops is usually more than enough.
Step # 3 - Gently rub over the face, eye and neck area (be sure not to forget the lip area!)
If you have sensitivity to essential oils, have skin issues or extremely sensitive skin be sure to test a small area for any allergic reactions before applying to the entire facial area.
Doesn't get more simple than a 2 ingredient skin moisturizer. Because of the astringent properties of Frankincense, I have also seen an improvement in my blemishes (adult acne since hitting the age of 40 has been no fun) and my pores appear to be smaller.
We would love to hear your thoughts on using coconut oil and frankincense as part of of a more natural beauty routine so be sure to leave us a comment or tag us on Instagram using #CocoCalla.
